There are only two undefeated teams left in the NFL and one of them is the San Francisco 49ers. The Niners put their unblemished 6-0 record on the line Sunday when they host the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers are 4-2 and they are coming off a bye week, so they should be ready to knock off the Niners. Carolina has won 6 of the last 7 meetings between these two including a 23-3 win the last time they played in 2017. The Niners are 4.5 point favorites in the early lines. Kickoff is Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET at the Superdome in New Orleans.
The Carolina Panthers have won 4 straight since former NFL MVP Cam Newton went down in a week two loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Rookie signal caller Kyle Allen has come on and been one of the big surprises in the NFL. He has not yet lost as a starter, but he faces probably the best, or second best, defense in the NFL. Newton is getting closer to coming back but Allen has the fourth best quarterback rating in the NFL so it will be interesting to see what they do. If he can lead the Panthers over the Niners this week, quarterback controversy over.
If you thought that the San Francisco 49ers would be 6-0 heading into week 7 you're either a genius or a liar. The Niners were predicted to be better, but few saw this coming. The defense is dominant, giving up just 10 points per game, while the passing defense is the best in the league. The running game has been awesome, as the Niners average 172 yards per game on the ground, second in the NFL. This is a ground and pound team with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo having to be nothing more than a good game manager. Can the Panthers figure out the Niners D?

Panthers have 4 game winning streak

The Carolina Panthers are on a roll. Since Cam Newton went don with an injury, the Panthers are 4-0 with new quarterback Kyle Allen. The rookie quarterback is ranked 4th in th NFL with a quarterback rating of 106.6. The Panthers are coming off a bye week following a 37-26 win over the Buccaneers 2 weeks ago. Allen was a very efficient 20 for 32 for 227 yards and 2 touchdowns. Christian McCaffrey has been one of the best players in the NFL. He's third in the NFL with 618 yards rushing and has 7 rushing touchdowns -- second in the NFL. He also has 35 catches.

Panther coach Ron Rivera said there's no rush in bringing Newton back too early. “Until I get word from our people, from our doctors specifically and trainers, I think the thing we need to do is stay focused on the here and now,” Rivera said, reported the Charlotte Observer. “As I said, I’m not putting that kind of pressure (on him). I’m not sure why people want to put pressure on a guy and get him out there before he’s ready to play.”
The Panthers offense has really been clicking. They average about 27 points per game, which ranks 5th in the NFL. They average 375 total yards per game, which is 19th in the league. That includes 245 ypg in the air, which is 17th, and 129 ypg on the ground, which ranks 9th in the league. Defensively, they have been pretty solid. They allow 22 points per game, which ranks 15th in the NFL. They allow 344 total yards per game, which is 12th in the league. They give up 225 ypg in the air, which is 7th, and 119 ypg on the ground, which is 23rd in the NFL

Niners remain unbeaten

The San Francisco 49ers have been the biggest surprise of the 2019 season. The 49ers are 6-0 and they have the most dominant defense in the NFC. They only give up 10 points per game and their passing defense is the best in the league. The also have a powerful running game led by Matt Breida and Tevin Campbell, which is second in the NFL. The defense was on full display last Sunday as the Niners shut out the Washington Redskins 9-0. The D only gave up 154 yards and allowed Case Keenum to only throw for 72 yards. Tevin Coleman led the attack with 62 yards rushing, but this game was all about the defense. And the weather. The teams played in a steady downpour, making conditions tough.
“It was definitely fun watching our whole team slide across the field there,” coach Kyle Shanahan said, reported the Washington Post. “I enjoyed watching that.”
